Dear Families and Friends of WBCA:

Last week we sadly announced the passing of a very dear friend of West Bay’s—Mr. Douglas Brush. Doug was the last surviving founder of the Academy. Doug’s life story is a remarkable one as his humble, quiet demeanor spoke volumes about his faith. Doug was a World War II Veteran, where he earned the Purple Heart and the Silver Star. He then worked as a police officer for the City of Warwick until he retired as a Captain. During his time as a policeman, Doug was involved in many domestic situations where he was deeply moved by the circumstance of disadvantaged children. As a result, he and his wife, Evelyn, became licensed foster parents and began taking in children whose families were in crisis. After retiring from the Police Department, he worked for DCYF for 12 more years, where he continued to intervene on the behalf of neglected children and, of course, continued to provide care for these children in his home.  more...
