West Bay 2010-11 Service Projects
8th Grade
Mrs. Felkel's 8th graders collected boxes from every classroom for their school-wide food drive to support the Providence Rescue Mission, an organization committed to helping the homeless.
At Thanksgiving time, stuffing, gravy and pumpkin pie are often desired items. The food the West Bay students collected was a bit more diverse. JalapeƱo peppers, rice and beans topped the list of requested items. The students learned those who are served by the mission are often from different cultures and prefer different foods. The 8th graders felt strongly about providing goods which would show their care and would be enjoyed by those in need.
5th Grade
Our 5th grade classes gave a Christmas helping hand to needy families in the community. The 5th graders where provided a budget, lists of children wishes and headed out to Walmart in Coventry. They learned to shop on a budget and to think of others and not selves. Returning to the classroom, the students dug in and wrapped all those gifts.
